“Ok, you guys!” the coach shouted as they scrambled over to the sidelines. “Now remember, you need to run TOWARD the ball, NOT away from it!”
The huddle nodded in unison, as I saw each little girl’s face flash it’s own unique expression of bewilderment. It was a Saturday afternoon and the soccer field was packed. The adults looked hot and fatigued as they corralled the kids together for their 50th attempt to try the play again.
I had to laugh.
How many times do we feel like we’re running in the wrong direction or simply misunderstanding the rules all together?
We’re constantly being handed opportunities and challenges. Some days we meet them head on, other days not so much.
It’s easy to feel lost and disoriented when things get chaotic, but we must persevere and face what life has in store for us.
That’s how we get better at the game.
